Listen to others

'Listen to others,
even the dull and ignorant;
they too have their story,'
the Desiderata tells us.

It is advice we should all heed -
especially leaders, especially doctors.

Pancreas and Causes of Pancreatic Cancer

The pancreas is a gland about five inches long located behind the stomach.

It is surrounded by the liver, gallbladder, and small intestine. The pancreas has two main functions. One is to produce digestive fluids needed to neutralize stomach acids and break down food. The second is to produce hormones, such as insulin, that are needed to metabolize sugar.

Pancreatic cancer occurs when abnormal (cancerous) cells grow in the tissues of the pancreas. Ninety-five percent of pancreatic cancers occur in the ducts that carry pancreatic juices.

A rare type of pancreatic cancer, called cystadenocarcinoma, begins in the cells that produce insulin and other hormones.

While little is known about the cause, the following factors may increase the risk of getting pancreatic cancer.

They include:
(1) exposure to cancer-causing agents;
(2) cigarette smoking;
(3) a high fat, low fiber diet;
(4) a diet high in foods containing food additives;
(5) and diabetes.

Although the link has not been proven, people who work with petroleum and certain chemicals used in the dry cleaning industry should follow the safety guidelines for handling these chemicals.

THE WARNING SIGNS of Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH)

Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common prostate problem among men aged above 50.

It results in the enlargement of the prostate gland, an organ located below the bladder which helps in producing semen and in expelling the fluid during ejaculation.

If it becomes enlarged, the prostate puts pressure on the urethra and obstructs it, affecting a man's ability to urinate.

The following are warning signs of BPH:

· A need to urinate frequently, even in the middle of the night.

· Difficulty in starting to urinate.

· Difficulty emptying your bladder completely, resulting in urine dribbling after you are done.

· The stream of your urine is weak and intermittent.

· Sudden strong urge to urinate.

Excessive Sweating [Ref: H08G17-0724]

What it may mean: Sweating profusely may be an indication of hyperthyroidism whereby the thyroid gland produces too much hormones, said Dr Loh Keh Chuan from Loh Keh Chuan Diabetes, Thyroid & Hormone Clinic.

What can be done: You should visit a doctor to get medication such as Carbimazole that will help prevent the gland from being overactive. They are usually taken over a period of 18 to 24 months.

What's so special about The 80/10/10 Diet? (Raw Food)

This an article contributed by Laurie Masters and Lennie Mowris on the Book entitled " The 80/10/10 Diet: Balancing Your Health, Your Weight, and Your Life, One Luscious Bite at a Time" by Dr. Douglas N. Graham

How excited should we get about yet another diet book coming out?

Very, very, excited.

What's so special about The 80/10/10 Diet?

Dr. Doug Graham has taken the increasingly popular and tremendously successful low-fat, plant-based diet and turbo charged it for unprecedented, off-the-charts results.

Eclipsing even the astounding benefits so well documented by renowned world-class vegan health professionals who also advocate low-fat eating , Dr. Graham's plan is the first to present a low-fat diet and lifestyle program based exclusively around whole, fresh, uncooked fruits and vegetables.

From effortless body weight management to unprecedented vibrant health and disease reversal to blockbuster athletic performance, The 80/10/10 Diet delivers in ways no other plan can even hope to match.

The 80/10/10 Diet brings raw food to the mainstream like no book has ever done before.

The concept is straightforward: in order to achieve optimum health, humans must lower the percentage of fat in their diets. And raw-food enthusiasts, unfortunately, have a reputation for just the opposite. Consequently, respected doctors like John McDougall and Andrew Weil, while noting the undisputed benefits of consuming raw fruits and vegetables, steer people away from an exclusively raw diet.

They (accurately) observe that raw-food aficionados tend to eat a tremendous amount of fat, in fact, more than the amount consumed by people who eat standard American junk-food diets!

The popular nut-and-seed-based entrees; oily, avocado-heavy salads; and coconut/nut-laden desserts served at nearly every raw restaurant, festival, and social gathering bear testimony to this regrettable fact.

Health-savvy individuals readily recognize the shortcomings of such a regimen and bolt in the other direction, relegating the burgeoning raw-food movement to the status of fad at best, and health destroyer at worst.

Comprehensive in scope yet simple in implementation, the 80/10/10 approach makes good sense. Every element of the program is based in hard science, and every meal is delicious and appealing. Fresh, juicy fruit takes center stage in this symphony of simple taste sensations, and tender greens and non-sweet fruits like tomatoes are their sole accompaniments.

Grains, legumes, supplements, super foods, dehydrates, juices, stimulating condiments, and refined oils play no part in the 80/10/10 program, and the healthful fats in nuts, seeds, avocados, and coconuts are invited for rare guest appearances only.

Essentially, The 80/10/10 Diet outlines a plan that derives a minimum of eighty percent of its calories from carbohydrates. All the best science points to this key dietary concept, yet no approach has taken the low-fat vegan plan to its rightful heights, because they all rely upon the consumption of cooked, complex carbohydrates as their primary calorie source.

Starches and grains are bland foods, so inevitably we end up compromising their potential health value by amending them with fat, refined or chemical sweeteners, and salt. Dr. Graham bypasses the entire problem by using the simple carbohydrates in fruits as the main staple of his program.

Once the commonly held misconceptions about fruit are laid to rest, which Dr. Graham accomplishes with aplomb, The 80/10/10 Diet has the potential to bring more people to the vegetarian movement than any book ever written. Why? Simply because it converts dessert into the main course, offering people the chance to eat as much healthful sweet food as they could ever care for.

It offers a diet not of fast food, but of instantaneous food. In stark contrast to the laborious effort required to prepare most raw-food concoctions, 80/10/10 fare wins the simplicity award, hands-down.

Sure, readers are wary when they open the book, for widespread fruit-phobia abounds, and the maladies and shortcomings misattributed to fruit are legion, even among health professionals who should know better.

In a caring and thoughtful fashion, Dr. Graham systematically eradicates every common fear, argument, and supposition about eating sweet, delicious fruit. Concerns about blood sugar, glycemic index, candida, cancer, diabetes, chronic fatigue, protein, tooth decay, weight control, digestion, triglycerides, and many other topics are handled in depth, with precision and clarity.

Says Graham, "All I did is create a synthesized version of the world's most respected health science, and present the obvious outcome."

The 80/10/10 diet is without a doubt the healthiest, most nutritious, and most satisfying way of eating, as it is the diet for which our species is anatomically, physiologically, emotionally, and philosophically designed.

Dr. Graham cites statistics and research from the fields of nutritional science, sports physiology, and medicine, and he makes copious use of real testimonials in order to prove his points: Sweet, juicy fruit is Nature's most perfect food for humans. The low-fat, raw vegan diet is richly rewarding and completely satisfying.

Written in a no-nonsense style and constructed so that even totally new concepts flow smoothly from one to the next, The 80/10/10 Diet makes for effortless and intriguing reading.

Dr. Graham obviously did his homework and presents a sound, compelling argument for trying his approach.

*He spent over five years researching and creating this book, after devoting more than fifteen years to following the diet about which he writes.

*He helped thousands of guests in the ?80s and ?90s at his South Florida health retreat to achieve phenomenal reversals of every manner of disease on the 80/10/10 plan.

*He shines as a living example of what is possible on his program, having experienced uninterrupted and superb health without so much as a head cold or a missed work day since 1980. Time and again, he astonishes young athletes (often less than half his fifty-four years of age) by outperforming them in speed, strength, endurance, agility, balance, and many other aspects of physical fitness.

*He has coached both amateur and elite professional athletes from around the world to unforeseen personal records on the program.

Although similar-sounding results can be gained on cooked starch-based plans, the body's true potential for healing and athletic prowess on a diet of Nature's rocket fuel is astronomical.

Just ask some of Graham's longtime fans.

Allergy -- Thumb Tip Eczema due to additives in beef/chili?

Yesterday (2008-07-10), I took beef noodle at about 1130 am. In the yesterday afternoon, I noticed that my left thumb had a “Thumb Tip Eczema” condition just next to the fingernail on the right side of the finger. When pressed, the sore location is slightly painful.

Furthermore, my usual sensitive is slightly sore.

The cause of the eczema/condition was probably due my allergy to some unknown additives in the beef or in the chili.

Dr Sandra Cabot's Live Blood Analysis - Victoria Taylor ND

What is Blood plasma?

Blood plasma is the liquid component of blood, in which the blood cells are suspended.

It makes up about 55% of total blood volume.

It is comprised of mostly water (90% by volume), and contains dissolved proteins, glucose, mineral ions, hormones, carbon dioxide (plasma being the main medium for excretory product transportation), as well as the actual blood cells.

Blood plasma is prepared simply by spinning a tube of fresh blood in a centrifuge until the blood cells fall to the bottom of the tube.

The blood plasma is then poured or drawn off. Blood serum is blood plasma without fibrinogen or the other clotting factors.[1]

Live Blood Cells Compared [Ref: H08G08-1927]

(The original title is Blood Cells Compared)

The separation and distinct spherical shapes show healthy blood cells. Separation allows more oxygen to come into contact with each blood cell. It also allows for efficient nutrient delivery and detoxifying by Jupiter water flushing out toxic waste material. The rings around the blood cells are healthy cell membranes.

Daily detoxification at the cellular level is the key to longevity.

The photograph on the left is of blood cells of a young woman. Tight coagulation means cells struggle with nutrient delivery and toxin flush out. This sets up a foundation for degenerative diseases and accelerated aging.

Health problems are indicated from lack of individual blood cells separation.

Live blood cell analysis Part 1 (Microscopic Blood Analysis) by Dr. Blaine Chambers

My and Latte’s First (Live Blood Cell Analysis) microscopic blood analysis

Last Saturday (2008-07-05), I and latte had our first microscopic blood analyses at Health & You Exhibition 2008 at Suntec.

  • residing freely in their own space
  • not overlapping or sticking together
  • but gently repelling each other because of their negative charge
  • uniform in size, shape, and colour

Furthermore, the health professional manning microscope showed us the following in Latte’s blood on the computer monitor:

(a) fat (I the shape of an irregular stripe)

(b) a blood clot. (She copied and pasted this clot at the bottom of the monitor)

She (the health professional) also said that my blood looks fresh and better. Latte’s blood is dark and contains toxins and high cholesterol and the red blood cells less lively.

The results of the above tests for me and Latte are no surprising.

Reasons are:

(1) In the last two to three years, I have been a near-vegetarian and a Calorie Restriction with Optimal Nutrition (CRON) practitioner and my diet has been healthy most of the time. My BMI has been around 19.814 in the last one year.

(2) Latte is overweight. Her BMI now is 26.171. Her diet is very unhealthy. She has been eating junk foods despite my many reminders to her to eat healthy. She just does not care. What can I do?

Upon the advice of the health professional, Latte spent $140.00 to buy some ready-to-take Chinese herbs to “solve” her problems. I will write on the herbs later.

Clumping together of red blood cells and Cancer

Clumping together of red blood cells is a sign of the absorption of undigested protein.

In normal blood, the red cells should be round, freely movable, and unattached. That way they can make their way through the blood vessels and accomplish their number one job, which you will remember is to carry oxygen to all the cells of the body.

But the accumulation of undigested protein in the blood makes these red blood cells stick together, like stacks of coins, or like globs of motor oil. Once it gets like this, the blood tends to stay aggregated. Imagine the difficulty, then, for the blood to circulate in such a glopped-up condition.

The smallest blood vessels, through which the blood has to pass each time around, are the capillaries. But unfortunately, the diameter of a capillary is only the same as one of the red blood cells - they're supposed to circulate in single file.

So what happens in a body whose red cells are all stuck together for a few years? It's not rocket science: the tissues of the body become oxygen deprived and are forced to stew in their own wastes.

Are we talking about cancer yet? We sure are. Nobel laureate Dr. Otto Warburg discovered in the 1920s what all researchers now know: most cancers cannot exist well in an oxygen-rich environment.

Why is it that people don't die of cancer of the heart? Just doesn't happen.

Why not? Because that's where the most highly oxygenated blood is, and cancer doesn't like oxygen.

Live Blood Analysis (Microscopic Blood Analysis)

Live Blood Analysis is the process of using a microscope to evaluate shape and the properties of individual blood cells.

Using this process, properly trained health professionals have been able to observe some startling nutritional disorders.

These disorders include some conditions that cannot easily be found by using the traditional methods of blood analysis.

By observing various conditions in a sample of blood, the health professional is able to customize a nutritional program specifically geared for the individual needs of the patient.

This method was designed as a screening test to take the guess work out of selecting the appropriate nutritional program for the individual client.

The advantage of the blood microscopy analysis is that many nutritional disorders can be detected before standard blood tests can detect any chemical changes.

Generally then, treatment can be more successful because these problems are discovered when they are still in their infant stages.

This would be considered true preventive care nutrition.

What are enzymes, antioxidants and free radicals?

What is an enzyme?

Enzymes are energized protein molecules, which have been termed the "life force" of body chemistry. They regulate every biochemical reaction within the human body, including energy production, metabolism, respiration, nerve function, reproduction, immunity and digestion. Simply put, without enzymes, life would not exist. Individuals who are enzyme deficient are more subject to disease and degeneration.

What is a free radical?

A free radical is an extremely active molecule, such as super oxide hydroxide or peroxide, that will cause rapid oxidation of tissues and especially fats. This results in excess rancidity, tissue damage and premature aging if not controlled. Free radicals are known to cause over 60 major diseases because they damage the cell lining, making it easier for disease to set in. While free radicals are necessary in the body, especially to the immune system, it is extremely important that they be controlled by antioxidants.

What is an antioxidant?

An antioxidant is a specific vitamin, enzyme or accessory food factor that has the ability to scavenge free radicals and render them harmless to the body. The body has the ability to make antioxidants if given the right nutrition, especially antioxidant enzymes which are sometimes very hard to get from food.

Tips for fighting fatigue

Some causes of fatigue are obvious, such as lack of sleep or a medical illness, but many others are harder to pinpoint. Depression or anxiety, overwork, sedentary living, nutritional factors, or even a medication could contribute to fatigue or cause a feeling of low energy.

Fatigue can be due to numerous causes, such as medical conditions like congestive heart failure, hypothyroidism, or diabetes. It can also be a result of sleep disturbances brought on by menopause, or by physical changes that accompany aging. But while fatigue may be an inescapable part of life, there’s no need to take it lying down. Your body is geared toward generating energy as well as expending it. And there are numerous strategies to help regain the physical and mental energy needed to enjoy life to its fullest.

Eat for energy

The tried-and-true advice for healthful eating also applies to keeping your energy level high:

(1) Eat a balanced diet that includes a variety of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats with an emphasis on vegetables, whole grains, and healthy oils. Taking a daily multivitamin will ensure that you get the vitamins and minerals you need, but taking extra amounts of individual nutrients won’t give you more energy.

(2) Eating certain types of foods in particular amounts can help prevent fatigue. Because different kinds of foods are converted to energy at different rates, some — such as candy and other simple sugars — can give you a quick lift, while others — such as whole grains and healthy unsaturated fats — supply the reserves you’ll need to draw on throughout the day.

(3) Eat small, frequent meals. Where energy is the issue, it’s better to eat small meals and snacks every few hours than three large meals a day. This approach can reduce your perception of fatigue because your brain, which has very few energy reserves of its own, needs a steady supply.

Reduce stress

The most common cause of persistent fatigue is stress and the emotional response to it. People who feel fatigued most of the time don’t necessarily have more stress in their lives than other people, but they may be more sensitive to its effects. Stress-induced emotions consume huge amounts of energy. Relaxation therapy can be an effective tool for reducing stress and naturally boosting your energy, particularly when used in combination with cognitive behavioral therapy. Meditation, self-hypnosis, yoga, and tai chi are all relaxation techniques. One of the easiest techniques to use is progressive muscle relaxation, which involves systematically tightening and releasing sets of muscles, beginning with your toes and progressing up your legs, torso, hands, and arms. You might also consider other relaxation therapies, including aromatherapy and massage. No matter what age you are, there are things that you can do to feel more energetic.

Harvard Health Publications’ Boosting Your Energy report will help you take the first steps toward discovering the causes of your fatigue. This Special Health Report provides you with the latest information about fatigue and offers strategies to help you regain your physical and mental energy. The report discusses medical conditions that may be the cause of your fatigue as well as ways to naturally boost your energy.
