Change your diet, heal your eczema!

I saw the following question in the Mind Your Body of the Straits Times dated 2011-09-29.

Based on my personal experience, to heal her eczema completely the 14-year-old girl need to change her diet to a healthy plant based diet and take healthy supplements and avoid almost all processed food and junk food for at least 4 months to 1 year or longer. If you need more information, please let me know.

Eczema getting worse

Question: My 14-year-old daughter has eczema. Flaky patches used to appear only on the crooks of her arms and behind the knees.

But since early last year, she has been getting flaky patches all around her neck and on her eyelids. They are often itchy.

Our family doctor prescribed Dermasone which does not seem to work for her. She showers with Cetaphil and applies moisturisers.

What else can she do to treat the eczema and alleviate the itch and discomfort?

Note 1: On 2010-10-30, Tanita BC532 replaced watson Scale because the battery low too fast.

Note 2:

At 0530 hour of 2011-09-28. Watson Scale = 55.7 kg + 500g = 56.2 kg

At 0530 hour of 2010-06-28. Watson Scale = 55.9 kg + 500g = 56.4 kg But Tanita Scale = 56.2 kg .

At 0650 hour of 2010-04-28. Watson Scale = 55.2 kg andTanita Scale = 55.7 kg which is the same as Watson reading (in kg) + 500g.

At 0630 hour of 2010-05-28. Watson Scale = 54.6 kg + 500g = 55.1 kg

Note: From 2010-02-01, Watson weighing scale had replaced Camry, which became faulty. In the past reading of Camry was about 500g more than that of Watson. To maintain consistency, so my weight =Watson reading (in kg) + 500g

On 2010-03-28, at about 7.40 am, my weight by Camry = 55.9 kg + 500g = 56.4 kg. I also used Tanita BC-532 Body Composition Monitor to confirm that my weight was 56.4 kg.

My current BMI is within the healthy range of 18.5 to 22.9.

For me, the range of healthy weight is 50.9786 kg (BMI = 18.5) to 63.10324 kg (BMI = 22.9).

People with BMI values of 23 kg/m2 (or 25 kg/m2 according to some sources) and above have been found to be at risk of developing heart disease and diabetes.

To be healthy, I must have a healthy weight.

Be as lean as possible without being underweight, as recommended by World Cancer Prevention Foundation, United Kingdom.

Why Eat Eggs? ( By www.bordereggs.co.uk)

Info Source: http://www.bordereggs.co.uk/10.html

Fresh, Organic, Free Range Eggs

Why Eat Eggs?
Eggs are one of nature's most nutritious and versatile foods, they can play an important part in a healthy lifestyle. Eggs contain the right kind of fat. One egg contains just 5 grams of fat and only 1.5 grams of that is saturated fat. Eggs are one of the only foods that contain naturally occurring vitamin D.

The Benefits of Eating Eggs: Eggs are low in calories and could actually protect against heart disease, breast cancer and eye problems and even help you to lose weight. Eggs are actually good for you. They are rich in nutrients, one egg provides 13 essential nutrients, all in the yolk (egg whites contain albumen, an important source of protein, and no fat). You should keep eggs in the fridge in their box and eat them by the use-by date.

Fresh, organic eggs that are certified salmonella-free are an excellent food. They contain high levels of selenium which may be lacking in the diet and have cancer- and heart disease-fighting qualities. They're a good source of iodine, which can help to promote healthy thyroid activity and also contain lecithin, a substance that can help to prevent heart disease and gallstones. Eggs are rich in vitamins and minerals, including vitamin E and zinc – both lacking in many older people's diets – as well as the B group, which helps nerve health and stress, and protein. Aim to have about four eggs a week unless you have specifically been told to avoid cholesterol in your diet.

Essential Nutrients
These FAQ's attempt to answer questions that you might have about the nutritional value of eggs including protein, amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

Question 1: Are eggs a high quality source of protein?
Answer Yes, Eggs contain all nine essential amino acids making them an excellent source of high quality protein.

Question 2: What is the nutritional value of an egg?
Answer Eggs have a high nutrient density because they provide significant amounts of vitamins and minerals, yet contain only 71 calories.

Question 3: Are protein foods an important part of a healthy diet?
Answer Yes. Protein is essential for building and repairing tissue. It is also necessary for proper growth and development. Muscles, organs, skin, hair as well as antibodies, enzymes, and hormones are all made from protein.

10 Health Benefits of Eggs (by www.healthdiaries.com)

Info Source:

http://www.healthdiaries.com/eatthis/10-health-benefits-of-eggs.html

Some of you may have eaten eggs over the Easter weekend so I thought I'd post ten health benefits of eggs (and it doesn't count if they were chocolate eggs!)

1. Eggs are great for the eyes. According to one study, an egg a day may prevent macular degeneraton due to the carotenoid content, specifically lutein and zeaxanthin. Both nutrients are more readily available to our bodies from eggs than from other sources.

2. In another study, researchers found that people who eat eggs every day lower their risk of developing cataracts, also because of the lutein and zeaxanthin in eggs.

3. One egg contains 6 grams of high-quality protein and all 9 essential amino acids.

4. According to a study by the Harvard School of Public Health, there is no significant link between egg consumption and heart disease. In fact, according to one study, regular consumption of eggs may help prevent blood clots, stroke, and heart attacks.

5. They are a good source of choline. One egg yolk has about 300 micrograms of choline. Choline is an important nutrient that helps regulate the brain, nervous system, and cardiovascular system.

6. They contain the right kind of fat. One egg contains just 5 grams of fat and only 1.5 grams of that is saturated fat.

7. New research shows that, contrary to previous belief, moderate consumption of eggs does not have a negative impact on cholesterol. In fact, recent studies have shown that regular consumption of two eggs per day does not affect a person's lipid profile and may, in fact, improve it. Research suggests that it is saturated fat that raises cholesterol rather than dietary cholesterol.

8. Eggs are one of the only foods that contain naturally occurring vitamin D.

9. Eggs may prevent breast cancer. In one study, women who consumed at least 6 eggs per week lowered their risk of breast cancer by 44%.

10. Eggs promote healthy hair and nails because of their high sulphur content and wide array of vitamins and minerals. Many people find their hair growing faster after adding eggs to their diet, especially if they were previously deficient in foods containing sulphur or B12.

Healthy diet produces Healthy Body

You are what you eat.

What you eat becomes part of you.

Part of the healthy food you eat forms part of your body.

Part of the unhealthy food you eat also forms part of your body.

Healthy food produces healthy body.

Unhealthy food produces unhealthy body.

No amount of physical exercises can produce healthy body if you eat unhealthy food most of the times.

Your moving around at home or work place can be considered as a form of light exercise.

To be healthy, eating healthy food most of the times is much more important than doing exercise!

The confession by 60-year-old unhealthy man with unhealthy diet

Note: Based my personal experience, to be healthy, eating healthy food most of the time is much more important than doing exercise. Your moving around at home or work place can be considered as a form of light exercise. No junk food. Avoid most of the processed food.

The following is the confession (via email to a friend of mine) by 60-year-old unhealthy man with unhealthy diet:

Many things suggest that my health is deteriorating.

Fading memory, poor listening capacity, floaters in the eye, struggling to read and listen and diabetes, etc. I am unable to control urine at times.

Fading memory is the most frustrating of all in my life.

Despite having regular exercises, I am still having health problems.

I suspect it is due to my diet, I love food, enjoy eating so much that it is to a extent of being unable to resist the food temptation.

Good foods are unhealthy, generally.

I have to take drastic actions to change my diet to healthy one before it is too late!

My Chronological (actual) age vs. My Metabolic Age in the evening on 2011-09-10 (Saturday)

Re: My Chronological (actual) age vs. My Metabolic Age in the evening on 2011-09-10 (Saturday)

On 2011-09-10, Saturday, in the evening, my body composition was analysed by Tanita Body Composition Analyzer SC-330 at the Lifestream booth at World Food Fair 2011 at Suntec City.

My Chronological (actual) age is 61.

My Metabolic Age according to Tanita Body Composition Analyzer SC-330 was 36 as at 2011-09-10.

If the measurement results is reliable and a good indicator of the actual age of my body, it must be due to My mainly plant-based diet with High Fibre, Low Protein, Low Fat, Low Salt and Low Sugar intake.
