What is sporadic ataxia?

What is sporadic ataxia?

(1) Progressive ataxia related to cerebellar abnormality

(2) No family history, so genetic cause unlikely (patients are singletons)

(3) Also called idiopathic ataxia

(4) Diagnosis of exclusion, because many known diseases may masquerade as sporadic ataxia

(5) Age at onset typically >50 years
