The National Environment Agency (NEA) has introduced Inland Ash Scattering (IAS) as an additional option for the management of cremated ashes in Singapore, beyond the current options of scattering at sea, storing at home or in columbaria niches.
Inland ash scattering allows next-of-kin to scatter cremated human ashes in designated lanes within two gardens: the Garden of Peace and the Garden of Serenity.
Our Inland Ash Scattering GardensThe Garden of Peace, which opened in May 2021, marked Singapore’s first dedicated inland ash scattering facility. The Garden of Serenity, our second facility, opened in August 2025, to meet the increasing demand for inland ash scattering services.

The inland ash scattering facilities are designed as an open garden setting. Designated lanes for the scattering of cremated ashes are spaciously laid out, with trees and hedges between the lanes to accord families privacy, and to provide a respectful and dignified environment for the ash scattering process.

The designated ash scattering lanes are lined with a bed of pebbles. Families can gather, view and take part in the scattering of ashes in a respectful and dignified manner, within a serene and tranquil garden setting.

Ash Soil Transfer Works at NEA’s Inland Ash Scattering Facilities
NEA conducts periodic ash soil transfer at the Garden of Peace and the Garden of Serenity. As scattered ashes accumulate over time and the IAS lanes reach capacity, ash soil from the lanes at both the Garden of Peace and the Garden of Serenity will be respectfully transferred to a designated location within the Garden of Peace at Choa Chu Kang Cemetery. This ensures that the lanes remain available for continued use by members of the public. The location of the ash soil transfer is indicated in the map of the Garden of Peace below.

Lanes scheduled for ash soil transfer will have a three-month rest period, during which they will be closed for new scattering of ashes. NEA will ensure that there will always be lanes available for use at any time.
