Extra pounds place extra pressure on your knees, but a weight loss of 5 kg can reduce knee pain due to arthritis by 50 per cent, according to a study published in the journal Arthritis & Rheumatism.

In addition, taking NSAIDs, resting and using ice compresses can alleviate pain and swelling.
