General Information

Large crowds are expected at the government-managed cemetery and columbaria, namely Choa Chu Kang Cemetery, Choa Chu Kang Columbarium, Mandai Columbarium, and Yishun Columbarium, during the Qing Ming festival (5 Apr 23), Good Friday (7 Apr 23) and the weekends from 18 Mar to 16 Apr 23. Where possible, members of public are encouraged to avoid visiting on these days.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) will put in place crowd control measures at the columbaria during this period and extend the opening hours to 24 hours daily. 

The Garden of Peace (Inland Ash Scattering Facility) will be closed to visitors on the weekends during this period (18 Mar to 16 Apr 23), Qing Ming festival (5 Apr 23) and Good Friday (7 Apr 23), to give privacy to those who have applied for scattering of ashes. Only applicants with an approved booking for inland ash scattering will be allowed into the Garden of Peace.

e-Appointment Booking for those parking at Choa Chu Kang and Mandai Columbaria during Qing Ming visiting period

To improve the traffic flow within Choa Chu Kang and Mandai Columbaria, and to enhance the overall experience for visitors, NEA will implement e-appointment booking for visitors parking at Choa Chu Kang Columbarium and Mandai Columbarium during the Qing Ming period, applicable on selected dates:

Visitors are to take note of the following:

  • For visitors taking public transport, appointment bookings are not required.
  • For visitors driving to Choa Chu Kang Columbarium and Mandai Columbarium during the Qing Ming period, only vehicles registered with valid e-appointments will be allowed to enter and park at the premises during the specific period. 
  • Non-registered vehicles intending to drop off passengers may use the designated drop-off/pick-up points
    1. Mandai Columbarium - near the pedestrian gate along Mandai Avenue; and
    2. Choa Chu Kang Columbarium - at Carpark E
  • Vehicles arriving outside the e-appointment time may be denied entry. As traffic wardens will be deployed to regulate traffic flow and vehicle access into the columbaria. Those parking at Choa Chu Kang Columbarium and Mandai Columbarium must show proof of the successful e-appointment booking (i.e. confirmation email or SMS).
  • Booking time slots are from 6am onwards, in 2-hour intervals. Visitors who wish to park their vehicles at Choa Chu Kang Columbarium and Mandai Columbarium are advised to book an appointment early at go.gov.sg/qm2023vehicleappt
  • When you make the booking, please come prepared with a few dates and timings in case your preferred date and time is no longer available.
  • The queue for Qing Ming e-appointment booking starts at 9.45am on 6 Mar 2023.
  • The percentage of e-appointment slots available at Choa Chu Kang Columbarium and Mandai Columbarium (as at 10 Mar 2023) is shown below:

Shuttle Bus Service and Designated Drop-off/Pick-up Points for Taxis and Private Hire Vehicles

To minimise traffic congestion, visitors are advised to take the shuttle buses provided during peak visiting days, or utilise public transport services. Designated drop-off/pick-up points will be set up at Mandai Columbarium and Choa Chu Kang Cemetery, to facilitate visitors taking taxis and private hire vehicles. Drivers are advised to follow directional signs and instructions given by the traffic wardens.

Advisory

NEA urges members of the public to exercise socially responsible behaviour to protect our well-being and that of our families and relatives. As crowds are expected at Choa Chu Kang Cemetery, Garden of Peace (Inland Ash Scattering facility) and government-managed columbaria during the Qing Ming period, visitors are requested to:

  • Visit during off-peak hours (6pm to 6am)
  • Carpool, take public transport or the shuttle bus services provided
  • Book a time slot if driving to Mandai or Choa Chu Kang Columbaria during Qing Ming Period
  • Carpool
  • Check real-time traffic conditions at NEA website to plan your trip
  • Keep public areas clean and do not leave behind food offerings or litter after visiting
  • Use burners and containers for burning of joss paper
  • Use the joss paper collection and burning service provided near Mandai Columbarium Block K
  • Avoid crowding at niche room, around the prayer and joss paper burning areas
  • Avoid eating in the columbaria at all times
  • Avoid bringing pets
  • Those who feel unwell or are sick, should stay at home, see a doctor and avoid visiting

Visitors are reminded not to give red packets to staff working at and within the government-managed facilities.

Visitors to our facilities are reminded to keep themselves and others around them safe by observing good hygiene habits, such as binning their litter and keeping the shared spaces clean.
