Now I also take

Biological Dentists and dental health and Health Supplements

I learned a new term "biological dentist" today.

The following is from internet.

Biological dentists, also known as holistic, or environmental dentists, operate according to the belief system that your teeth are an integral part of your body and hence your overall health, and recognize that your oral and dental health can have a major influence on other disease processes in your body.

My view is: Health of other parts of your body will affect your dental health too.

Take multivitamins, Vitamin C, B complex 100, omega 3 fish oil and calcium with vitamin D daily to keep yourself healthy.

Why take Multivitamins?

Quote

"National (USA) surveys consistently reveal that older adults often fall far short of meeting their nutritional requirements from their diet.

This is partly due to their dietary choices, age-related impairments in their ability to absorb and utilize some nutrients, medication-induced nutrient deficiencies, and increased nutrient requirements due to common chronic conditions.

While dietary supplements should never be considered as substitutes to a healthy diet, a typical multivitamin supplement with minerals can help substantially to fill the gap between usual nutrient intakes and requirements.

Several leading nutrition authorities feel that a daily multivitamin is a prudent and pro-active health behavior for most people and especially for older adults."

The following is an old photo. My diet has not been Gluten Free since March 2016. I healed myself from eczema after taking relevant health supplements.

My former eczema had nothing to do with Gluten.

What health supplements have I been taking?

I solved my hand eczema problems by taking health supplements

My hand eczema slowly made a come back after I stopped taking all health supplements some time in 2014.
I stopped taking health in 2014 because I thought I did not need any health supplements since I took nutritious and healthy multi whole grains, nuts and beans, black sesame powder  and green smoothie daily.

But it was a mistake.

I guess the reason is: We can't have sufficient nutrients from our foods no matter how or what you eat.
Between 2014 and March 2016, hand eczema gave me a lot of problems, pains, discomfort and anxiety.
Retaking health supplements have almost solved my hand eczema problem.

Now my hand eczema problem is almost solved after retaking again health supplements since mid March 2016. I had not applied skin moisturizer on my palms in the past week because I didn't need it to moisturize my palm skin and my palms don't have any sores or torn skin now.

I hope my eczema has been solved permanently.

I am taking the following health supplements daily.

GNC Vitamin C 1000 mg
[Note: On 16 July 2016, I replaced GNC vitamin C with GNC TripleC™ 1000 (180 vegitabs) ]
Nature's Farm B complex 100 -- 1 tablet
1 or 2 tablets Redoxon vita immune
1 tablet of Centrum silver multi vitamins
1 Caltrate 600 plus tablet for calcium.
Now brand vitamin D-3 1000IU -- 1 capsule
Nature's Farm omega-3 fish oil 1275 mg -- 1 capsule
I suggest each of us should at least take a tablet of multi vitamins as an insurance to ensure that we have sufficient nutrients for our bodies.
I am taking Centrum brand multivitamins now. I strongly recommend you to take multivitamins daily unless your medical conditions do not allow you to do so.

I resumed taking health supplements from March 2016

After stopping taking health supplements about 4 years ago, I resumed taking health supplements in March 2016.

The reason: Most probably we couldn't have sufficient nutrients from daily foods alone no matter how or what we eat daily.

From March 2016, I resumed taking

Multivitamins,

Vitamin D,

B-Complex 100,

Calcium with Vitamin D (from 27 May 2016)

Vitamin C,

Omega-3 fish oil,

Redoxon Vita Immune.

Dr. Martha Herbert’s six tips for helping people with autism and the importance of Fruits and Vegetables and Plant-based diet (Source: Book “The Autism Revolution”, by Dr. Martha Herbert and Karen Weintraub)

Dr. Martha Herbert’s six tips for helping people with autism (Source: Book “The Autism Revolution”, by Dr. Martha Herbert and Karen Weintraub).

Please visit

Tips 3, 4 and 5 emphasise on the importance of fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, berries. Eat a plant-based diet rich in antioxidants, phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. Avoid pesticides by eating organic as much as possible.

3. Repair and support cells and cycles: Two key function of cells are to make energy and take out the trash. There’s genetic evidence that some or many people with autism have cells that don’t perform these functions well. Build up cell health by eating foods high in antioxidants (fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, berries).

4. Promote healthier immune and digestive systems: Stick to high nutrient foods (lots of fruits and vegetables). Avoid simple sugars and starchy carbohydrates that feed unhealthy bugs in the gut. Support the “good bugs” with high-fibre foods, or naturally fermented foods. Immune-supportive supplements such as vitamin, D, vitamin A, zinc, curcumin and fish oil (omega-3 fatty acids) help calm down a lot of inflammation pathways. Avoid pesticides by eating organic as much as possible. Protect your child against infections with vaccinations.

5. Help the body mend the brain: Eat a plant-based diet rich in antioxidants, phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. Avoid heavily processed food and excitotoxins (MSG, aspartame, hydrolyzed vegetable protein) which can drive the autistic brain to over excitation or overactivation.

It's better to get omega-3 fatty acids from fish than from fish oil supplements. ( from webmd )

It's better to get omega-3 fatty acids from fish than from fish oil supplements.

Stick with fish, not capsules. Most of the encouraging studies have looked at people eating fish, not taking a supplement. Extracted omega-3 fatty acids may not have the full benefits of what's naturally in fish.

Some recent studies of people at higher risk of heart disease did not find that omega-3 supplements helped. People with heart disease should talk to their doctor to see if omega-3 supplements might be a good idea.

A man taking more than 50 tablets or capsules of many types of health supplements daily suffered from a mild stroke

P.C. Kingston is a good friend of my friend Lawrence H.Shaw.

Kingston is a 60- year-old man.

He is very knowledgeable in health matters and health supplements. He is considered a Health Supplements expert among his friends and relatives.

He looked fit (until last week) with well-gown hairs, not a strain of white hair.

For past several years, on daily basis, he has been taking more than 50 tablets or capsules of many types of health supplements he prescribes to himself.

But last week, he suddenly suffered from a mild stroke.

This shocked everybody around him. He is recovering well.

Can you tell me what happened?

Hope in a humble worm

Simple organism studied in bid to find way to extend human lifespan
By Chang Ai-Lien, Senior Correspondent

=====================================

PROFESSOR Barry Halliwell hopes to unearth some of the secrets of ageing from a humble worm.

The internationally acclaimed biochemist has discovered compounds that extend the lifespan of C-elegans - a widely used research organism - as well as free radicals which can halve its life. Although it is early days yet, the hope is that once more is known about how such chemicals work, they can eventually be used to extend human life.

Prof Halliwell, who is deputy president in charge of research and technology at the National University of Singapore, is well known for his seminal work on the role of free radicals and antioxidants, and is one of the world's most highly cited researchers in biology and biochemistry. Some researchers believe antioxidants may protect cells from free radicals, by-products produced when the body processes oxygen and which damage cells and increase the risk of diseases such as cancer.

Explaining the ageing process, Prof Halliwell said: 'If everything in a person's body declined at the same rate he'd probably live to the age of 120.

'But that doesn't usually happen because one organ will fail first, plus disease becomes more common with age, and people also heal more slowly.'

Ageing is affected by a person's genes and lifestyle, he added, but there is also a random element which is unknown.

Enter C-elegans. The 1mm roundworm is popular with scientists for a number of reasons. It is transparent - so changes in organs and cells can be easily studied; it does not live long - 22 days on average; its complete cell structure, development and genetics are well studied; and it has enzymes and genes also present in people.

In his laboratory, the worms used for such research are genetically identical clones, and they have exactly the same environment. Yet some live just 10 days, and others to the ripe old age of 34 days.

'Despite the identical conditions, some worms remain extremely active while others move less and less, just like how some old people are vigorous but others become moribund,' Prof Halliwell said.

So he is trying to tease out these differences, in addition to examining compounds such as antioxidants and looking at how they affect lifespans.

Testing many plant-based compounds, his team has identified two secret ingredients which increase the worm's lifespan to 40 days.

They are now fine-tuning the optimal dose and studying how they work.

On the flip side, free radicals have been found to dramatically shorten the worm's life, to about 10 days. But the process is more complicated than it seems, said senior research fellow Jan Gruber.

Knocking out genes that create antioxidants has not had the expected effect of shortening lifespans, he said, as systems are complex and compensate for the loss.

Also, free radicals are not just toxic chemicals. They are believed to play a role in energy regulation.

'What we're trying to do is to make sense of these single mechanisms in a holistic manner,' he said.

Years of work remain. So far, high doses of antioxidants have not been proven to be useful in preventing disease in people, as a range of them is needed.

Prof Halliwell said: 'At the moment, all that we can conclusively say is that the populations of advanced countries would benefit from eating less fat and more fresh fruit and vegetables and perhaps taking multivitamin or mineral supplements.

'Even Hippocrates, who knew nothing about antioxidants, came to the same conclusion about diet using simple clinical observations and relying on his own common sense.'

Build Bones in Your Youth 9Adequate daily calcium intakes by age)(by webmd.com)

Healthy habits as a child or teenager can pay off years later with stronger bones.

Young people can build their bones by eating calcium-rich foods, getting enough vitamin D (through sunshine or diet), and exercising regularly.

Adequate daily calcium intakes by age include:

Under 1 year: 210-270 mg

1-3 years: 500 mg

4-8 years: 800 mg

9-18 years: 1,300 mg

19-50 years : 1,000 mg

50+ years: 1,200 mg

By age 30, the average woman has built 98% of her peak bone mass.

My best tip for women getting pregnant (by Associate Professor Mahesh Choolani)

The following was reported in Mind Your Body of the Straits Times dated 29 April 2010 by POON CHIAN HUI.

My best tip...

Read up on healthy diets or consult a doctor if you are planning a pregnancy.

A proper diet with adequate supplements is important.

This seems fairly obvious but I've seen many pregnancies that could have been healthier or lower-risk if nutrition was paid attention to.

For example, many women take folic acid after getting pregnant, when they should start doing so even before they are pregnant.

Health supplements for BB’s hair loss problem

I cannot control BB’s diet. At present my other actions to help BB on his hair loss is try to take him the following health supplements daily:

(a) 2 tablets of Century Life Maxi hair by Country Life (A dietary supplement for nourishing hair, nails and skin.**)

(b) 1 tablet of Centrum multivitamin

(c) 1 tablet of Kordel's Acid Free Vitamin C 1000 mg.

I agree with A.L. Williams that All You Can Do Is All You Can Do. But All You Can Do Is Enough in my help to BB in this case.
