Baltimore Food Policy Initiative

The Baltimore Food Policy Initiative (BFPI) is an inter-governmental collaboration with the Department of Planning, Baltimore Office of Sustainability, and the Baltimore City Health Department. The goal is to increase access to healthy and affordable food in Baltimore City food deserts.

Baltimore has become a national model for cities across the county working to implement food policy initiatives and change their community’s food environment, and is one the few cities in the country that has a full-time Food Policy Director. BFPI is made up of the Food Policy Task Force Recommendation listed below and the Food Policy Advisory Committee (Food PAC). The goal of BFPI is to increase access to healthy and affordable foods in Baltimore City food deserts.
